One of the most difficult aspects of interviewing for jobs is trusting that your knowledge, your experience, and your skills are enough. Everybody is looking for that little edge which is going to help separate them from the rest of the field.
But hiring committees are seeking genuine people. Genuine people are confident in themselves without being cocky. Genuine people know they are enough and they don’t have to sell themselves more and more as they progress through the interview process.
It’s like a baseball pitcher who throws a really good curveball and gets a swing and miss. If they feel they have to throw an even better curveball on the next pitch, they’ll end up trying to hard and flattening out the pitch, leading to a 450-foot home run. Don’t flatten your curveball by trying to do too much as you progress in the interview process.
A hiring committee has moved you forward in the process because they liked how you presented yourself and your ideas in your previous interview. So trust the person you introduced a club to in your initial interview is exactly the person you should again show to the club in subsequent interviews. Be confident in your knowledge. Be confident in your experience. Be confident in your skills. And be confident that YOU are enough.
